Matar chaat is a popular street food snack in India. Every region has its own version of making this chaat. Today, I'm sharing a Delhi style Matar Chaat recipe!
This dish requires a bit of preparation from the night before, but it is going to be so much worth it. It is tasty and full of protein, also perfect for vegans. I call it Protein salad with not many leaves in it :)
First, what you will need:
- 1 cup dried white peas / white matar
- 1 tsp of Salt
- 3 cups of water
We will soak the white peas in water and leave it overnight. In the next day, we will rinse the soaked white peas 2-3 times and added into Insta Pot.
We will add salt and mix thoroughly. Press the button Meat/Stew and let it cook on its own.
Ingredients we need to assembling chaat
- 1 medium onion finely chopped
- 1 tomato chopped
- Green chillies (seeds in – chopped) if you like it spicy
- Cilantro 5 tbsp chopped
- Black salt 2 tsp
- Red chilli powder 1 tsp
- Lemon juice 2 tbsp
- Cumin powder 3 tsp
- 3 tsp tamarind chutney
- 1 tsp garam masala
In a big bowl, take the boiled white peas and add in onions, tomatoes, green chillies, cilantro, black salt, roasted cumin powder, garam masala, lemon juice, and red chilli powder.
Drizzle tamarind chutney at the end.
If you are using a pressure cooker, once the whistle is ready to come in reduce the flame and let it cook for 30 mins.
If you are using an open pot - then let it cook at medium flame for 1 hour. Make sure the peas are cooked properly.
